At the heart of The Retreat is the Thermae. The word Thermae is derived from the ancient Greek word for heat and by 315 AD, Roman life revolved around this daily bathing ritual which involved a series of rooms and pools progressively increasing in temperature tempered with cooling plunge pools and showers. The heart of the Spa, the Thermae, is true to the classical and historical heritage of Greco-Roman bathing rituals of cleansing and relaxation. At The Retreat, the Thermae is constructed around a colonnaded central courtyard on the Lower Level, leading to an open area and this peaceful haven has gently running water throughout.

The Retreat's operating hours in the summer are from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, with treatments taking place only from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Operating hours in the winter are 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, with treatments taking place only from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Tours at The Retreat are by appointment only and can be conducted from 9:00 am to 10:00 am and from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
